Directed and curated by Eku-Buunk, Pigment Cascade is an ongoing, artist-led project exploring painting through exhibitions, publications, and site-responsive activity. Its second curated iteration, Breaks and Noise, unfolded within the flexible, hybrid environments of Phoenix Art Space during Phoenix Open Studios, offering a platform for experimentation, exchange, and dialogue.
Artists contributed works on paper responding to the theme “Breaks and Noise,” engaging with rhythm, improvisation, and the sonic textures of Tricky’s musical vocabulary. Contributions were installed fluidly across the space, fostering interaction between works, participants, and the environment itself.
Complementing the installation, a handmade publication collected further images, reflections, and improvisations, extending the project’s reach and dialogue. Pigment Cascade continues to examine painting’s capacity to operate across physical and digital platforms while remaining a platform for experimentation and shared authorship.
